Genetics building

At the University of Utah, we recognize that the clinical rotations are critical components in providing you with hands-on training. Students are required to complete rotations in: perinatal genetics (8 weeks), cancer genetics (8 weeks), pediatric genetics (6 weeks), and a specialty genetics clinic (6 weeks; choice of metabolic genetics, cardiology, adult genetics, or other approved clinic). The fifth rotation is a required elective rotation (6 weeks), which is a unique component of the UUGPGC that allows you to personalize your education to meet your career goals. Previous elective rotations have included cardiology, ophthalmology, behavioral genetics, research, and industry rotations. Past students have also created and organized “designer rotations” to obtain practical experience in multiple clinics of interest.

Past students have had the opportunity to travel out of state or internationally to complete one of their clinical rotations in the summer between their first and second year.  Students have traveled to: California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, Alabama, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Alaska, London, Chile, Canada, South Africa, and more!
