Lauren A. Wallace, MS, LCGC, of Intermountain Maternal Fetal Medicine, is the UUGPGC recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Genetic Counseling Clinical Supervisor Award. This award is given by the Association of Genetic Counseling Program Directors (www.agcpd.org) to recognize the invaluable contributions clinical supervisors make to genetic counseling student training.
Lauren was selected because of her ability to establish a supervisory relationship through which students are both supported and challenged, to provide constructive feedback that promotes student growth, to provide students with excellent learning opportunities while maintaining high quality patient care, and for serving as an example of what a genetic counselor should be.
Specific comments submitted by the Class of 2018 students included, “Lauren is approachable and creates a safe space for her students to discuss counseling fears and difficult counseling experiences. She excels at meeting students wherever they are in their learning” and “Lauren is also a model of professionalism for her students. She demonstrates how to build strong relationships with colleagues and how to interact with patients in a sensitive, but appropriate way.” Congratulations to Lauren! We are so pleased that her dedication to education, expertise in the profession, and kindness to all are recognized on a national level!
